Bimbetta
Produced by Paul Hillier, this debut album by the five-woman ensemble,
BIMBETTA, brings aspects of feminism, popular culture, and Baroque music
into a unified concept expressed through theatrical performance. The
group is dedicated to performing early music with original instruments
and techniques, combined with 20th century interpretations and imagery.
Acclaimed for their superb musicianship and refreshing, irreverent theatricality,
BIMBETTA creates vivid performances of music from the early Baroque.
Through period instruments and vocal styles, BIMBETTA uses the heat
and humor of American popular culture to bring the passions of 17th-century
music straight into the 20th century. The ensemble has been featured
in concert series, nightclubs, universities, alternative rock venues,
and at major festivals in Europe and in the United States.
Reviews
"An
utterly enjoyable mixture of feminist cabaret and music of the early
Baroque delivered in an absolutely professional manner. Impossible?
On the contrary!"
-Concerto magazine, Germany
"Any
performers who can sing 'Zefiro Torna; as well as they can may dance
to it any way they like."
-New York Times
