Remembering
Marian Anderson
Faye
Robinson
On the
100th anniversary of Marian Anderson's birth, world-famous classical
soprano Faye Robinson moves into another vocal arena in her newest release,
"Remembering Marion Anderson", a recording of traditional
spirituals and contemporary gospels. Renowned as both an operatic star
and a concert artist, Miss Robinson has sung with virtually every major
opera company and symphony orchestra throughout the world. In commemorating
Marian Anderson, who never forgot her roots in spirituals, the classically-trained
Robinson now turns back to Anderson's inspiration.
Also featured are the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra of Columbus, Ohio,
conducted by Music Director, Timothy Russell, and the Milton Ruffin
Gospel Chorale. The disc mixes traditional styles of spirituals like
This 'Lil Light of Mine and He's Got the Whole World in His
Hands with contemporary gospel, and adds four original tunes by
Milton Ruffin. The orchestra, which serves as the bridge between soprano
and gospel choir, adds a new dimension to old favorites, thanks to orchestrations
by Kim Scharnberg, well-known film and theatre arranger. Much of the
music on this CD was performed by Faye Robinson with Seiji Ozawa and
the Boston Symphony.
"Her Voice remains fresh and vibrant, her art immediate and intense...Robinson
always could out-sing some of her more famous sisters in song, and she
still can."
-Boston Globe
"Robinson...absolutely stunning magnificent vocal command...commanding
emotional presence. The chorale, a crackerjack group...exemplary."
-Columbus Dispatch
